Ricardo J. Rabelo has a bachelor degree in Computer Science from the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC), a specialization (Artificial Intelligence in Manufacturing) and a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering (Robotics & Integrated Manufacture)  from the School of Science and Technology of New University of Lisbon (1989 and 1997, respectively), Portugal, and a Post-Doctorate in Collaborative Innovation from Griffith University, Brisbane, Australia (2014-2015).

  • Full Professor in the Department of Automation and Systems Engineering and member of the Graduate Program in Automation and Systems Engineering at the Federal University of Santa Catarina.
  • Coordinator of the UFSC Print Institutional Program of Industry/Automation 4.0.
  • Responsible for the elaboration of the fundamental text of the Brazilian National Strategy for Industry 4.0.
  • Author of about 200 published works, including papers in scientific journals, conference papers, book chapters, among others.
  • Supervisor of about 40 students, including post-doctoral, Ph.D., and M.Sc.
  • Coordinator of several research projects, including many funded by European Commission.
  • Leader of GSIGMA – Group of Intelligent Manufacturing Systems ∑ Collaborative Networks.
  • Formal member of various technical working groups of IFIP, IFAC and IEEE.
  • Business consultant and ad-hoc advisor of several government agencies and industrial associations.
